Re: Yes, it's time to turn the lights out

I know I haven't logged in since January of last year, but I've gotta take a moment to say goodbye to SR. I was visiting the site to see if there was any advice for an old set in his ways fruit booter to pick up quad skating so he can be a part of his fianc├®e's new roller derby obsession. Now to se...

Re: Your skates

Just replaced my old Seba Highs with new Seba Highs (I say replaced, I've had three pairs of the original since they came out, due to breakages and loss.

I think this is the only time in the past ten years than I've had just the one pair of skates, lol

2006 vs 2008 seba sizing

Anyone know if there's any difference in the sizes between the original seba high model and the '08 one? I'm retiring my old models, but I can't get up to blueroom to try, so I'm going to be ordering and was just wondering if the internals padding has moved around at all, etc. Not that I've been thr...

Re: Seba High cuff bolts

Hmm, anyone know if CBR will deliver if you ask nicely? I don't foresee being in London anytime before I leave for the US in three months, which is rather a long time to wait.

Seba High cuff bolts

Does anyone have any idea where I can get hold of a replacement bolt and the circular adjustment disk. I suddenly realized the other day that the bolt on mine had fallen out, alone with the adjustment disk. Skates still function fine of course, but one side is riding lower than another and I'd rathe...

Wish I could make is, especially as I've not been since Eastbourne 2004, but unfortunately I'll be in America that weekend :(

I went to the Hyde rink last week, it was pretty darn packed, can't help thinking they need a WAY bigger boot room and about double the number of staff for it, lol

i was so pleased that everyone was offering to sharpen my skates at the ice rink i was working at last winter, until I realised that Id never trust my skates with any of them. lol, the guy who did sharpening at Eden didn't seem that attentive at his job, certainly the hire skates were never sharp e...

But then he also criticises my t-stops because in ice skating you're supposed to angle the trailing foot so that the t-stop is performed on the outside edge of the trailing foot not the inside edge like it is on inline skates. I've always felt that doing Ts on ice is a waste on energy in comparison...

One thing I can suggest is that after you do get them sharpened to your satisfaction, purchase a skedge, I use one and I've not had to have my skates sharpened since I got them a year back - though they only hone to a 1/2" profile, but that's pretty much standard as Rick says.

I might be wrong, but I think Naomi knows a little about these. Have you considered simply ordering from skates.com? I've ordered to the UK from them and found the service good. That said, unless you're confident you know what you want and they'll fit, it's usually a good idea to try skates on befor...

Just make sure to balance it out with equal amounts of regular skating if you can. I worked as an ice-steward last winter and for a couple of months did nothing but ice, for up to 8 hours a day, after winter, when I got back on skates I had to completely relearn things like slides and found it hard ...
