Re: Wheel size

The old Salomon pilot pros used to have different mens/womens fit, but that is very much an exception to the rule in these times where most skates roll off an assembly line somewhere in China.

Re: Need advice on new skates

What a load of shit I've just trawled through.

Rule #1 of skating: it's not the skates, it's the skater. You skate best in what you feel most comfortable in.

Re: Need advice on new skates

Twister 243 for £130 is really quite a good deal. Old farts like me could tell you that the Twisters are based on the old Technicas which were *the* best slalom skates you could get at one time and basically one of the first and best hardshell/liner skate.. whose design hasn't really changed at all...

Re: New Skate Brake Kickstarter

Hi Ben, that looks really interesting.

Well done! I hope that this project can gain more traction and backing. It has the potential to do wonders for skating in general.

Have you filed for a patent for it yet?

Did he only have one skate on for that one one or something?

1:18 for the marathon in the rain is just crazy.. I dream of doing these sort of times in the dry.. with someone to draft.. :|

LFNS 05.03.2013 - Penrose Steps

Hello sports fans. This Friday Flemming is leading the LFNS on a clockwise loop, taking us on a tour of some of the best skating routes through Fulham, Kensington, Westbourne Park, Maida Vale, and Regent's Park. Roll up, roll up. There will be highs, and er, more highs, and it won't hurt a bit. Prom...

Hah, I remember trying to break this same record down at Vauxhall rollerdisco a few years back. Unfortunately the venue didnt lend itself well to this sort to the task at hand!

I'm sure you'll have better luck...

Re: Seba Fr1 Deluxe sizing

Mutleyx, Isn't it obvious? You simply have the wrong size. UK 9 = EU 43 = (Seba FR) 280mm (length of the insole) the inside length of the liner should be 285mm due to the bulge in the heel (and toe). Bottom line you have +2.9cm in the front. (y) I would really love to see a picture of your special ...

Re: Winter Tyres

+1 on what dan said about durometer rating. The profile of the wheel can also make a difference- in theory a fatter profiled wheel will give you more contact area (at the expense of more rolling resistance). But some roads get covered in diesel and other gunk and are a nightmare to skate on regardle...

Re: Extremely tight Axles

Check to see if there is any red loctite threadlock on the axle thread. The red stuff is the permanent formula. Inexplicably, I've seen it applied to lots of new skates, including on Sebas. I don't know at what stage of assembly its done at, but they really should not be applying the red loctite (b...

Re: 165mm Mounting Vrs 195mm mounting

165 is really designed with 80/90 setups in mind. 195mm is more suitable for 100/110 setups because the position of the mounting bolts enables the 2nd wheel to be as low as possible to the boot for the lowest possible deck height. Possibly there are other advantages such as less material required to...

Despite the lack of thread activity I think there's a decent number of London/UK skaters heading to Berlin this year..

and quite a lot of ESS people too.

Re: NTNTWNS 19th Sep - 8pm Liverpool St

Asbox for the leader - Problem solved. But seriously I don't get the point of getting together for a group skate and then not having the consideration to actually skate together as a group, which is why I don't bother with these any more. If anyone wants a chilled out skate where we stick together, ...

At least you didn't have far to go home. Think of the poor sods who might have been dragged to the arse end of town only to lose the skate after a few corners.

Re: Calories Burned while street skating

Yeah, I would even tend towards the lower end of that. Continuous skating a la marathons and street skating are worlds apart. You can roughly break a 2hr streetskate down to probably 60% moving, 40% stationary, and of that 60% moving time, rolling/coasting time might be 10 - 15%. What's more, distan...
