Re: Looking for skating teacher in Reading

I m based in Slough and I can also come and teach. Snap and I'm in and out of Reading a lot as I study there :p I'm not qualified to teach yet though but it doesn't make me a bad teacher, also depends if this person is looking for some more informal teaching or to follow a programme where an ICP in...

Re: Skates on in shops

Well gee wizz, thanks Stav. If I weren't already maximally humble I'd be truly humbled by that. Well in that case I'm glad you are not humbled as it was not my intention to hurt your pride. It's just, when I read your posts humbleness is not the word that comes to mind. For example: I'm just right,...

Re: Skates on in shops

Gummidge are you part of any debate society or as someone suggested earlier a lawyer? I think you enjoy debating as much for amusement as you said Dan did because most of your posts involve arguing any particular point to prove someone wrong. I'm just interested to know your motives for doing so. Ar...

Re: Listening to choons while skating

Well there is a compromise as they are built for sporting events and to be water resistant. Due to the fit you won't get the bass effect that you probably get from your ipod earphones, but the frequency range on that is still 19-21000 Hz, whereas standard ipod earphones sit at 20000Hz. Yeah I appre...

Re: BBC Sportsround

Well it doesn't look like you're thinking 'I feel like a nonse'. You look cute in a helmet by the way :P Anyway it is really good for the sport, hopefully more young'uns will grab skates and in turn force there parents to join in and we can turn Britain into a skating nation....well try to, it's not...

Re: Knee + Elbow pads

Indeed they look like they're soft foam padding, like the kind I used to wear in martial arts classes for shins and hands. Usually you see skaters wearing hard plastic pads, but from the pictures these look like they should stop you tearing your skin or clothing if you fall on them. Only problem is ...

Re: Help out a newbie

If you've been skating mostly indoor then hardly ever, especially since they're ILQ 9! Rule of thumb for bearings is try not to touch them unless you have to, that is you can hear crunching and the wheels aren't moving well. Bet you'll get a different opinion from each skater you speak to though

Re: Skate Patrol

It's probably not a bad idea to be 'branded' in a way - it makes them visible to new skaters in the park. Some skaters will not be so confident to stop and ask others for help and advice, whereas it's made clear in this way with the t-shirts. As for the advantages/disadvantages of the formalities an...

Re: Help out a newbie

Well I'm more of a street skater but back when I was taking lessons the first move I learnt was the forward criss-cross. A video of it is here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dv0atPJgZlw and another http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=p86CwodGHi8 It's probably one of the most simple slalom moves and gets y...

Re: Skate Patrol

Although I have never done this myself, I am under the impression that you can lift your supporting leg totally off the ground and just have your heel-brake and rear wheel on the ground. That's right you can. There are two extensions to the normal heel brake stop. The first is to do a toe roll on y...
