Was going to post something big about short-track racing, but it will be no use to you what-so-ever, unless your local rink has a club...

But special skates, special blades, special clothes, just well...

Re: Transitioning from inline to ice speed skates for the wi

I used to switch from inline speed (a bit of outdoor track and the odd marathon, and some streetskating) to short track on ice, I've now rather slowed the inline to the odd day or so here and there. Anything I say will have a strong short-track bias, there is basically no long track in the UK. I sta...

If anyone is going to be at the Vic at about 4-ish, and remembers who I am, I'll need a bit of help getting the bike off the roof and bolted together. fankyou [Above reliant on my weather machine, which isn't working as well as it usually does because London seems to be in a different weather stream...

Re: Aggressive skates for skating around or not?

This setup is apparently called 'powerblading' now and is not new despite what people say. Loads of people have used this setup for years, it's basically a marketing ploy by powerslide Many moons ago, Duracell bolted an early set of 4by100mm race frames to some S80 agro boots for the London Inline ...

Hmm I wonder if the same can be done with coke and mentos.. Yes, but with reduced thrust I'd think (and no I havn't done the maths, just guessing.) <pedant>and that would be a rocket rather than a jet, but it's not like the skates would know.</pedant> Okay, googled a useful looking mentos/coke seem...

Re: Different Styles of Skating

With ref to, the whole hand dragging thing. As people have said, two sorts of ice speed skating, called "short" and "long" track. Long track doesn't have hand dragging, the lean angles round the bends are not low enough on it's huge 400m track, and frankly its far to civilised by...

Results? Full mail when to Sooty A again, then I think Dan I and then perhaps Errol, (I'm sure there will be a full run down of scratch somewhere. Alex G for the girls. Can't recall who was first blue home, could be Ed (who raced sensibly) or the George/Sparky dead-heat who raced with there legs, l...

Re: speed skates high boot Vs low boot

No help here, as I don't enough non speed stuff now to provide any advice.

But I've just come back from an indoor session in Camberly, took my Bonts and my FSKs.

Guess which ones gave me more pain, go on, guess...

But without edge control and nice technique the transition may be painful.

Re: 80km ice skating race in Sweden

Guys, there is ice skating and ice skating, you may well need "wild" ice blades. Not the same as the long track blades you may be thinking of strapping to your 165mm boots. Short track blades, the most common you can find in UK and around this group, are another thing again, and even less ...

Can I say racing please?
If it's a big enough space (and it doesn't need to be much bigger than a decent sized RD space) you can get the odd event and I'm sure regular training.

The training can be at a less popular time of the week of course, mornings or early weekday evenings.

Re: Berlin 2010

Hmm. Must seek advice from previous B-groupers. Remember, no one can win, so it is likely to be co-oprative, which is good. There will be no crowds in front of your lines (so you can keep your head down and go mush more than Goodwood.) You are also well into fast skaters blocks, that filters out ma...

Re: Goodwood Roller Marathon 8th August 2010

Way fun that it had any right to be considering my state, form and the crowds.

Well done all, when Mick (no, nout our's) said it was the biggest roller event in the UK I'd say you were that last year and perhaps the year before that.

What are you going to be like next year?

Hillingdon is a good place to practice fast tight RH turns, I'd say it's tighter than Le Mans but not as fast.

Bit late to this, and Mick hit the Q for easy-out/stud extractors, I think I wrote a long post on this in the past (with links and everything) if someone's search fu is up to scratch.

Rather assume the problem has gone by now of course.

Re: Downhill Skate Setup

Getting hold of 5x80 or 5x84 round here should be dead easy. Nomes was clearing out a set, many others racers have them, I'm keeping mine, as they are not technically mine.

So start hanging around the speed types, they tend to move last (okay 4 years ago) kit...
