Re: Music to skate to

As for pace, I get what you're saying, I think my needs are more generally motivational and I just set my own pace regardless. That's something I find quite strange, and it's what I meant about having music playing while skating as opposed to skating to the music. I have to skate to the music, it's...

Re: Sunday Stroll - Goth Central 16/9/12

I concur with Dan. It's quite hard finding mp3 players with separate batteries these days though, usually they are built in and need a 5V USB supply for charging. It wouldn't be hard to build a small USB charger which runs from the main 12V battery, it just needs stepping down to a regulated 5V supp...

Re: Music to skate to

Make sense? Absolutely! When I'm skating the rhythm of the music is actually far more important than whether I like it or not. ... Queen, but it just doesn't fit when skating... Exactly. A classic staple for inappropriate music at leisure centre roller discos which saps the will to skate. They just...

Re: Music to skate to

Funky works. I'll pass on the metal though, speed or otherwise :) It's those straight, square rhythms which fail to engage for me, I need syncopation. I know others like that sort of thing to skate to though. To a certain extent I agree with Mit about it being a matter of musical taste, but I also t...

Yes.

The only requirement is it's got to be dancey as far as I'm concerned, so decent beats and rhythms. Drum & Bass, House, RnB, Hip Hop, Grime, Garage, Latin and the like.

On the other hand, skating in the wet is fun and bearings are easily replaceable.

Re: Mint condition Bauer Turbo price?

Ultra-violet does degrade most plastics, but the material Bauer Turbos are made from seems to break down over time however well you look after them. I had 2 identical pairs which must have been manufactured at around the same time judging by the type of plates fitted. One pair had been hardly used a...

Whatever you can get some mug to pay for them, which might be quite a lot ;)

Or use them yourself while you still can, it appears the plastic has a limited life.

Re: How many pairs????

...and look at how much Bauers are going for now! There's a couple of pairs of those blue Bravas/Bravos or whatever they are doing the rounds at the rink, whispered to be in the region of £200 or so value, if not more. I think some people have gone nostalgia mad. At least 3 skaters I know of at Wi...

Re: How many pairs????

Ooh, a cheap-off! ;) I used to buy lots of old skates for £1 or whatever at boot sales so I could build skates for my daughter's friends and scavenge bearings and things. Occasionally got some decent gear. Going through the boxes of old skate bits in the loft looking for bearings marginally less kn...

Re: How many pairs????

Another cheapskate here. My first pair of skates (Bauer Turbos) cost £10. Then I bought an identical pair for £1 from a charity shop which hadn't been used much and were in really good nick. They lasted until a couple of years ago when the plastic fell apart on both of them. Mind you, I spent many...

Finally got to use my bus pass to get to a roller disco last week, been wanting to do that for ages. The bus was full of old people though which felt a bit odd.

Re: I've been hurt before - Should I start using protection?

I don't think I'm into the risk though, but the rest of it I think it may have come across as more gung-ho than I intended, can't believe I'm less risk-averse than you having seen some of the things you do! In some ways I'm quite cautious compared with other people I know whether it's skating or ot...

Re: I've been hurt before - Should I start using protection?

I think the important thing is to be aware of the risks and consequences and then decide what's acceptable for you personally. There's no right or wrong answer and it'll also vary with the particular activity and your level of experience. It's really stupid if somebody gets them self hurt if the onl...
