Re: LFNS - 18/1/13 Chilling Out West

Surprise surprise. It's off. Looks to be drying but the radar shows we are surrounded by snow so there will be more and outside and little used roads are rubbish. Will try this one again and a months or so.

Re: LFNS - 18/1/13 Chilling Out West

It's going to stop.....but is it going to dry.....??? Given the route goes down some side roads which have probably not been gritted or driven on much and the quiet roads outside my office window are covered in snow. This is looking highly unlikely Final call will be made at 5pm as alternate plans f...

LFNS - 18/1/13 Chilling Out West - OFF

Baby it's cold outside. For those of you that are hard enough this should be going ahead this week. Forecast is max -1C on the day. I will be leading wearing quite a few layers so don't expect us to be caning it. Half time will be quite brief too because we all want to live and hypothermia is bad. R...

Re: Sunday Stroll - Welcome to 2013 - 06/01 OFF

Yep realised it was likely to be an unfortunate call about 1:30. Was soaking and getting more wet @12. Bummer. Glad some of you had a skate.

Re: Sunday Stroll - Welcome to 2013 - 06/01

Alas the word from both sides of th route is wet and there is 92% humidity which means, although it is not raining, it is staying moist and not suitable for a sunday stroller. Some if you might like to do a little suicide as it shouldn't get wet enough to trash bearings but I expect tales of slides ...

Re: Sunday Stroll - Welcome to 2013 - 06/01

PS If Angee doesn't finish her mix then I have been watching a lot of Miami Vice between Christmas and New Year which may have influenced* a new mix I am working on for a suitable Sunday. Ideally needs warmer weather and an 80s style theme but I'm in the mood. For those of you over 40 or pretending ...

Bring out your skates for 8.5 miles of remembering how it all work. It's Angee's birthday the day before and she is putting together a new ...

Re: Transitioning from inline to ice speed skates for the wi

Are there no frozen lakes that side of Canada? I know the west costs is not the coldest the Cascades aren't far away and there could be some nice stuff over there. On the other hand, if you are looking at going to public rinks outside of proper speed sessions then just pick up a pair of hockey skate...

Re: londonsantaskate 2012! Sat 15th Dec

I think I am Christmas music-ed out for a while :) Great skate and the most epic rain dodge ever given the forecasts up until about 3pm when the incoming suddenly split to either side of London. It was just like watching the closing sequence of Armageddon when the asteroid was split by Brucie's hero...

Re: LFNS - 16/11/12 Third Time Lucky

With all the information tools at my disposal....and having been outside for the last hour my conclusion is it might be a little bit damp in places but it should be dry enough to skate and what is coming in in the next few hours is very scattered and would be only on a small section if it hit at all...

Re: LFNS - 16/11/12 Third Time Lucky

Moist were I am. It's going to be either the most unlucky route I have ever known or we might get away with it. It's going to be a late call to see which way it turns. I am expecting a Go but I need another hour of certainty first.

LFNS - 16/11/12 Third Time Lucky - GO

We're having a third crack at this unlucky route this week. Not going to be mega blasting as it's quite a short route at 11.4 miles so it should be more inclusive if you have been struggling with Friday pace lately....like me ;) so break out those skatin' shoes and come for a cruise. Usual time, usu...

Re: Sunday Stroll 11 Nov - Parsons Green 3rd time lucky - GO

Jonathan, while I agree about the surface, it's very difficult to block Grosvenor Crescent exit safely because there are no lights to help with traffic control. While it may seem the same as blocking the Piccadilly entrance to HPC roundabout, they are quite different. That exit is tricky too but it ...

Re: Why skate backwards?

It's pretty useful when playing hockey, especially while defending or waiting for a pass, doing slalom, skating whilst dragging your girlfriend round a rink two handed, it helps you to bend your knees more, it allows you to recover from some tricky situations if you can transition between forwards/b...

Re: Extremely tight Axles

Wouldn't putting it on the axle, mean that some would rub off onto the bearings on the way in? Which can't be a good thing. Wouldnt it make more sense to put it on the frame and screw the axle into it? No. Because when you put the wheel in you are even more likely to get in on a bearing. You just t...
