Server downtime, 19 December 2011

Hello all,

The server is scheduled to be migrated to a new host on 19/12/2011 at 9pm GMT. The forum will be down for an hour or so, I imagine.

Thanks.

Re: Spammers

I'm getting rather a lot of "activate user account" emails, which I assume Steve and Naomi are getting too. This is proving a tad annoying, so I'm wondering what else we can chuck in there to alleviate this issue.

Like blocking China's IP range, etc...

Re: Spammers

I am led to believe that spammers are employing humans - very cheaply - to get past CAPTCHA and similar. Very little one can do about that right now.

"Official" Sunday Stroll info required

Hi chaps, Kieran at Flavorpill has asked me to update the ongoing entry, wants to clear up any confusion with the Rollerstroll. The current copy is: "Get yer skates on for this weekly four-wheeled invasion of Hyde Park and central London. Meeting every Sunday afternoon on Serpentine Road, Sunda...

JHC you people. A baby born in June 2000 is zero. In June 2001 it is one. In June 2009 it is NINE. In June 2010 it is ten. The Wednesday skate is 11 years old this year. It's not semantics, it's maths. This is why Stevie can't tell the difference between one and eleven on a volume knob.

Re: it was 10 years ago today...

We made Shaun (and Mandy) head of the marshals because Shaun was such a moaning, whining, fucking pain in the arse: it was easier to have him on the inside of the tent pissing out than on the outside pissing in. It worked. I particularly enjoyed bombing down the Embankment and clambering up the Towe...

Re: "Continuous Backwards Crossovers"...

In the entire time it's taken everyone to write, read, reply on this thread, Asha would have sorted this out. Certain things are incredibly easy to demonstrate, and also correct, and reverse crossovers are one of those things. Asha's video is less about crossovers in my mind than about shifting onto...

Re: "Continuous Backwards Crossovers"...

Figure 8 would be where you essentially skate the shape of an 8. Rick is basically right, although (a) As he points out, it's easier to illustrate than describe, and (b) I would still advocate doing eights rather than circles because I think it's important to be two sided. Backwards crossovers are a...

Re: "Continuous Backwards Crossovers"...

Christ, that's a long post. Worthy of a reply, to be sure. Figure eights, in short, are my preferred method of practice. They allow you to control your speed, but if you want to pick up speed, then you can simply make the figure eight bigger and take more steps on each section. I see plenty of peopl...

I believe you can personalize which theme you use - have a look in your "User Control Panel" at the top left.

Yeah, we know. It's this crap theme. We're shifting the forum next weekend so you will hopefully find some new and improved themes in there that don't do this.

Welcome. Love Texas myself, spent a lot of time driving through it last year. Didn't see many skaters, though :)

Stefasaurus was on good form - top skate y'all, cracking weather. Vegi was sweating heavily, I suspect he skated twice as far as we did, mostly in his search to scab a cigarette from someone...

Hmm, forget the pint. Never made it to Missouri, sadly. Drove through Tennessee and down through Arkansas a few months ago. Lovely part of the world.

A Brief but Important Guide to London Skating

Intro There are three regular street skates in London: the LondonSkate (Wednesday Night Skate or WNS), the London Friday Night Skate (LFNS) and the Sunday Stroll, plus a non-street skate event called the Easy Saturday Skate. There is some friendly rivalry between all the organizers, particularly ar...
