A bunch of us skate various routes through and around Melbourne on Wednesday nights.
It's been going about ten years and I'm told we used to get as many as 200 people.

After doing a Friday Night Skates in Paris and Amsterdam in 2004, I'm keen to see
the numbers increase in my hometown!

As you can see, france has quite a few. If you want to do something useful with the information, organise it by the day of the week. That way people can use it to plan a tour. It has been done so many times by Country/City that is it silly doing it all again.

how many do you get nowadays then? I'm coming to melbourne in august and wouldnt mind doing a streetskate whilst there!

Over the last year, the Wednesday night skate has been getting 10-20 people but that's been increasing since we put up the website.

Inline skating is only just showing signs of picking up again in Melbourne. We suffer from having
a bike track along the beach from Port Melbourne to Brighton (10-15km?) which everyone seems to think is the only place to skate. So while you see lots of skaters there we're only starting to see more skaters "in the wild" again (e.g. in the supermarket, leaching off trams, etc).

Melbourne is pretty flat, the roads are good and we have a great system of bike paths. All of these make it great for inline.

Check out http://www.cityskate.info/ for info on some other informal skates that are going on each week. Hopefully by next August the attendance numbers will have increased.

There are a few in Washington DC over the week. I went out with them a couple of months ago on a wednesday night and it was pretty good. Not as many people as in london maybe up to 50 in the summer they said.
One problem though, a lot of lycra was on display.........

There's also a Tuesday night skate from 7pm from Bayside Blades in Hampton. Will give you the details, JK. And Melbourne city is great for skating. A very nice waterfront too with a shared pathway.

Nuts. Would have joined if I'd known there was a night skate when I was in Wellington. Very nice city to skate, but a bit too windy around the harbour.

Yeah, the wind can be a pain. The hills are a bit scary for new skaters, but they soon become more of a blessing than a curse (especially the ones with cable cars and/or elevators to the top...).

Still a relatively small scene from what I gather, haven't tried it yet but will do this summer.

They appear to charge people to skate some of the routes, you can get membership and pay a bit less.

You must be a member to do any of their classes.

I think I might email them for more info and find out numbers, sponsers etc.
