BattleUK IV - 27th-28th March 2010

BattleUK is back!

For 2010, BattleUK has been moved to earlier in the year, due to a clash with the new slalom event at the Excel exhibition centre in London. BattleUK IV: "Roll Britannia" will therefore take place on the 27th and 28th of March 2010.

This year, for the first time, the UK freestyle slalom champion will not be crowned at BattleUK. The UK champion will be the skater with the best results in three of the four competitions that make up the new UK slalom series:

BattleUK IV: Roll Britannia, Nottingham, 27th & 28th March
Eastbourne Extreme, Eastbourne, 17th & 18th July
SkateLondon, London, 14th & 15th August
Xtreme in the City, London, 23rd & 24th October

BattleUK IV will also, for the first time, take place, not in The Victoria Leisure Centre, but in the newer and larger Sports Hall on The University of Nottingham's Sutton Bonnington campus.

BattleUK IV is open to all slalomers from the UK and overseas: there will be full international Mens and Womens freestyle slalom battle competitions, plus a rookie battle. There will also be speed slalom and a freejump competition, possibly a rollerbasketball competition too.

Further details on the NS website, here: http://www.nottinghamskaters.co.uk/BattleUK

Hi there,

I'm Flo from Munich ... met some of you Nottingham guys at SkateLondon 08 ^^ but nevermind if you cannot remember me =)
Nevertheless I am planning 2010 season and thinking of coming to Battle UK.

Concerning the location, can you provide me a google-maps link to it and the best way, how to get there from London Gatwick Airport? Train is preferred. Where to sleep? I am asking now, because flights are still affordable.

Thanks in advance,
Cheers!

Flo

Hi Flo,

That would be great!

This year the venue is a little way out of town, so there is little point staying in the centre of Nottingham. We therefore suggest heading to Beeston (the next town to the west of Nottingham). You can get direct trains from London St Pancras to Beeston, which takes about two hours and costs around £30, but the earlier you book, the better. There are two hotels very near Beeston train station, The Victoria pub and a shop for food supplies. You are also then just a short walk from Beeston town, taxis and the pick-up point for the hopper bus to the venue. Details of those hotels are on the NS website. I assume many of the Londoners are coming up Saturday morning, so you can probably join them for the train ride up.

Jim.

I'll probably be getting the train from London on Friday evening and coming back on Sunday if you want to travel then, but it's not cheap! The journey on Sunday evening alone is 50 quid :(

Buying a return instead of two singles comes to £50.30, so in this case, two singles aren't cheaper. But that's still too much. I'd wait a bit: the prices have to come down.

Another option to consider is hiring a minibus for the weekend. Bound to be cheaper than individual train fares. You could also get to the venue by yourselves once you're up here.

It's the weekend befor easter therefor it wouldn't surprise me if the prices aren't coming down by much.

I'm definitely driving a minibus to Battle UK, it's all been booked. Please send me a pm if you want to reserve a place, it costs £25 and the minibus will leave on Saturday morning and return on Sunday evening. It's certainly the cheapest way to get there from London!

Hello Skaters!

BattleUK IV is now only three weeks away and preparations are of course well under way. It's looking to be a great event this year! We have a new, much better venue with better facilities. Many skaters have already confirmed their attendance and eager to get their name on the first ever UKFSA UK slalom series ranking and move up the World Slalom Series ranking.

But now we need you to do your bit:

If you intend to compete at BattleUK IV, please register for the competitions you wish enter online now here. There's of course freestyle slalom battles with separate Mens, Womens and Rookie categories, plus speed slalom and freejump competitions. The closing date for competition applications is 12noon on Friday 26th March. There are several reasons why you should enter online now:

- ItÔÇÖs cheaper to pay in advance, as prices go up on the day.
- Lunch will provided on Sunday for those who have registered for freestyle slalom in advance.
- The more competitors, the more fun the battles and the better the prizes!
- And it makes things considerably easier for the organisers!

For those wishing to brush up on their freestyle before the competitions, then there are still a few places available for the SkateFreestyle slalom class with Naomi. The class runs for two hours on Saturday and two hours on Sunday. Again, all the details are here.

You can also support the event by buying a limited edition T-shirt. The T-shirts are black, long-sleeved, with design by (the go-to man for UK slalom competition logos) James Magerum. Pre-order your T-shirt online now, details here. The deadline for T-shirts is 12noon on Monday 15th March. THATÔÇÖS A WEEK ON MONDAY! (We need to allow time to get the T-shirts printed). Very few extras will be ordered, so if you want a T-shirt, please order online now.

All questions about BattleUK IV should be answered here. If not, please reply here.

Acid, I have spoken to loads of people this weekend that are planning on coming up to the event & participating, but haven't registered for it, and probably won't until closer to the time.

Just to let you know.
