Rhine On Skates 2010

Postby lurch on Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:23 am

Couple of people asked about Rhine On Skates 2010 in the pub on Saturday night. Here is link to the website - http://www.rhine-on-skates.de/english.html

This years event is on Saturday 28 August 2010. I did it last year and it was pretty cool, anyone who regularly completes the LFNS should be capable of it.

Anyone thinking of going this year? I haven't decided either way, but I could be convinced to go again!

I agree. Last year I did LIM, L2B, Goodwood, L2C and then Rhine On Skates and it was amazing how it all seemed to build up fitness and stamina. My only regret now is that I didn't cap it off with A2A ... maybe this year :)

4 1/2 hours from Paris on the train - not too bad. Sounds like a good weekend & no extra holiday from work

You know I could definitely do the train actually... how does the cost compare?

trains are normally only 3 months in advance (though Schlafsack will have a much better idea) therefore cannot get anything accurate.

estimate for London - Frankfurt leaving 13 march http://www.raileurope.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=948 £126.50 with 8 weeks advance booking. Can't imagine more than £250 even booking late.

If this link doesn't work

Leave London 8:57
Brussells 12.03

Brussells 12.25
Frankfurt 15.40

5hr 40 train service plus potentially day in Brussells and late train to Frankfurt. Looking on the map the town the skate starts from looks like a Frankfurt commuter town so I can't imagine any issues to get there

Ah so it's a little convoluted then. To be honest the closest airport is Frankfurt Hahn, but even that is something like 80km away. The only realistic way to get from airport to Bingen last year was to hire a car. Given that the train costs £250, if a group of us were going I would reckon a hire car, perhaps all the way from England, is cheapest and most direct?

I'd like to join in this year.

I wouldn't be up for a car unless it was absolutely the only reasonable way to get there.
You see, I hate roads unless I'm on skates.

By car http://bit.ly/8jY3tk 8 hr 28 in a car. Lille Brussels Liege Aachen Bonn Koblenz Bingen

According to Deutsch Bahn 7hr 03 by trainhttp://bit.ly/7cKLqn - though we may need a fluent German speaker to arrange this, and no idea of cost

I have full driving licence

Since that train journey changes last at Koln hbf you might as well save most of the first 6 hours and fly german wings to Cologne/Bonn the train from there. You can easily S-bahn it to the hbf from there. Or rent a car at the airport if there are enough bodies.

Train sounds fine to me. Unless its outrageously expensive I'd be up for it. Also spaniards can speak any language provided they can make copious use of body language, and/or grab surrounding objects to aid such language, so we'll be fine :P :P

What what? A2A? whats that? That isn't that really amazing street race of 87 from one US city to another is it? That one with really baby smooth roads? And free beer & massage at the checkpoints? This one? www.A2A.net ?

That sounds like a great idea. I've heard that it gives you awesomeness. Count me in.

I'm with you. Train journeys are fun and I'm willing to pay a premium to avoid planes, airports, buses and automobiles.

So Spaniards can speak any language. The question is: can anyone else understand them? ;-)
