Goodwood Roller Marathon 8th August 2010

Postby chezza » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:06 pm

Camberley Skaters are proud to announce the date for Goodwood Roller Marathon 2010. Please put 8th August 2010 in your diary.

Goodwood Roller Marathon is a charity race around the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit. Which ever race you choose to enter you do not have to complete all the laps so why not set yourself a challenge, you may do more than you think! All skaters are welcome no matter what the level or style. It is a great day out and a perfect start if you are new to marathons. There is microchip timing of the laps as well as a medal for you to take home and keep. More details on the website.

The Dual race (a double marathon of 22 laps = 53.24miles/85.68km) was a big hit last year so we are keeping things as they are for 2010. Of course we also have the Full Marathon (11 laps, 26.62 miles, 42.84 km), the Midi (5 laps, 12.10 miles, 19.47 km) and the Mini (2 laps, 4.84 miles, 7.74km).

As we ramp up to the event posters & forms will be available and advanced registration will open. To stay up to date with the latest news please sign up to the mailing listor follow us on your favourite social network.

See you all there.

I didn't quite make the full distance last year so I'd better give it one last go.

Registration will either be open at the end of Feb or start of March. We have a meeting planned for later in Feb which should confirm the exact date but we wanted everyone to know the date as soon as possible to keep it free! Registration will be possible through the website as usual and the earlier you register the cheaper the registration fee!Feel free to sign up to the mailing list to keep up to date with the latest Goodwood developments!

Usually only the nutters go for the double (eg Markus&Barbara, George). You can see the list of participants/results from previous years on the website.

I've been thinking about the double this year, as it would really give me an incentive to train hard, get fit and push myself. Probably won't sign up and make a decision until much near the time, though.

I was thinking of signing up for both normal and dual, then winning both. It's amazing what the imagination can come up with :)

I *might* be tempted by the dual...

*wonders off to check the lap times from last year*

Hopefully you'd be able to draft James all the way round and then beat him in both sprints

I've been thinking about the double this year,

I attempted it last year without sufficient training. I blew up after 19 laps. if you were reasonably fit you'd have no problem. The difficult part is when all the other skaters have finished and you are on your own. The weather was also pretty benign last year, the best since the event started.

Looks like your imagination is in line with mine :)

She'll be too busy being broken herself after skating the marathon she doesn't know she's entering yet.

Ha ha...yes we were lucky with the weather last year! Definately the best we've had. Saw some people discussing times from last year so just thought I'd put the results page link here. Looks like the dual might be a popular option this year...!? Needless to stay I shall be sticking to the normal 11 laps which is more than enough for my little legs!

Dual is fun as long as loads of people enter it, otherwise it gets boring on your own out there.

Could we have a new rule that would classify duals in the single as well? I'd like to see my time in both categories.

The most upsetting thing about the dual is that the winner only took half an hour longer than I did to do the full

The Question I am asking myself is marathon or dual?

What is the time limit on the dual? I think I will need well over 4 hours
