There's no sand! There's no beach in Aintree
. It's tarmac. I asked Nick to explain what 'coarse' meant...he said it 'wasn't as smooth as Preston' (ie the cycle track used for the May 12th event, which is very smooooooth indeed), but 'not as rough as a road'. I asked if it was similar to Three Sisters racetrack in Ashton-in-Makerfield where we did a charity skate last year...'yes and no' was his answer - 'smoother in most places, some rough patches, but it's being worked on between now and the event so I won't be able to say for sure until nearer the time'.
Three Sisters was mostly pretty smooth. There were a couple of short teeth-rattling sections, but no worse than your average UK road. A mate of mine who's skated Goodwood said it was no worse than there.
If that helps, then there you go
Apparently we'll be able to go for a test skate before the event - so as soon as I've done that, I'll post a warts and all of what it's like
