Goodbye, was fun and now is the past unless you make a Serp Road app I can see why this will close.

Was fun, sad to see the WNS numbers so low.

It's not about donations. Vish has been very kind in hosting the site for a number of years. The problem is that there is hardly any traffic any more. No point having a forum around that's just rotting.

This is so SAD. I check on serpentine road most working days and although I don't really know you I love you all. I've only been on a couple of Sunday strolls but they were great. London is quite far for me and I am getting less and less fit.

I don't know any of you on Facebook except for Asha.

Hugs and tears and stay well. (u) (u)

Sad times, I'm sorry my little ones won't be able to take part in this sort of community activity.

It does? The debate on redlocker died a year ago or more when the decision was made to move all the casual traffic to fb and reserve the forum for stuff that approximately nobody was really interested in. Result: no point in checking it more than about once a week so that pretty much killed what little activity remained.

Sorry, I've been meaning to write this for a while...

Many thanks Steve and everyone behind, and in front of the scenes! I am sad to see this place go, but I completely understand why.

Shameless promotion time.....

There's still one skating forum left for you to get your fix and it's so retro it on still on an earlier version of phpbb. It's also quite active because LSST hasn't really embraced Facebook. You could even join the club to get access to the other forums, get free coaching and generally speed up while on skates all in a friendly atmosphere. http://www.londonspeedskaters.com/forums/index.php Enjoy the past :)

Can we keep the forum as read-only?

It has very good SEO position for skating subjects...
It is sort of a Wikipedia for skates.

Such sad news! It has been a great place to find information, tips, meet loads of great people, have lots of fun and interesting debates!

Yes archiving the pages would be good; would be a shame for all these contributions to disappear in a puff of smoke!

So, what exactly is this "Facebook" of which you speak? I know I've heard it mentioned before, but if I want to read stuff about skating or ask stuff about skates, where exactly do I look? Serious question, thanks in advance.

Thanks Steve for running this site for all these years. I don't know what made me check the site today, but I haven't visited for a while mostly because I don't skate anymore, not because I've moved on to using facebook to communicate with other skaters. Sad times indeed.

I haven't contributed much but I've been an active reader on and off since I discovered the skating scene in 2006ish. Before that I was a lone lonely street skater. Stopped doing the street skates once the second baby came along. Miss doing them. Don't know what made me look at the site today, but glad I did. Rick, shameless promotion noted. Once the kids have grown up a bit I could be tempted to join the speedskaters (give it few years). RIP Serpentine Road (and Redlocker?). I won't be seeing you on Facebook, as I don't and won't be using it. It's a generational thing.

I occasionally drop in here to give myself comfort that you're all still skating in case I ever come back to London... Sad to see the forum go, I don't contribute often but have massively enjoyed being a general lurker. Thanks Steve and everyone, I'll miss this little bit of my history!

Traffic is always low in the winter. I had been using this to stay in touch and find out what was going on mainly in the run up to an event.
I'm sure I would have used this place more if i had actually been based in London.

I'll admit I had got a bit past the bearing/wheels talk but I had occasionally come on to pass on a bit of advice.

It does seem that the skating scene is smaller than it used to be. I'd have thought that the olympics in 2012 would have made more people pick up fitness type things (especially fun ones like skating) but then of course the weather screwed us over by being more terrible than usual.

I'd been using the forum a lot less in the last few months as I had been trying to sort out my life and most of the time I was devoting to skating related things was actually being out there rolling.

I don't even know where to start with what topics to save.

Thanks to all who've ever given me help & advice through here :).

It would be helpful to archive the technique, tips & equipment forum - I've learned loads from reading others' thoughts & experiences on gear.

Also, thanks to the admins etc for running this forum. It's a pity it has to go.
