Taking sui-sides: who's doing what on winter wednesdays?

Postby Dan B » Thu Sep 22, 2011 11:20 am

It would be great to have a summary of who's out on Wednesdays this winter and what they're doing.

So far all I know about is the Mit/Phil/Richard skate that usually goes from Liverpool St - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37491 (also available on facebook somewhere)

Any others? Any skates that are going faster/slower/twistier/less twisty/more hardcode/more softcore? Personally I'd like a skate that feels like a Tuesday RC (fast enough to stay warm, avoid crowded pedestrian areas mostly roads not pavements, no stairs) - anyone else interested? It's more fun skating in a group if only because you get less grief from car drivers

I don't mind what pace, but LivSt is an arse for me to get to so I'm more up for skates that start at Traf Sq or anywhere more Westerly. Is anyone interested in resurrecting NTWNS?
Failing that it will be Tuesday RCs or (more freqently) Thurs LSST LSSs to see me through the dark months.

there's one of those on Tuesday already. I might be on some of them, and Tanja has indicated that she'll be coming out. We need some more people to keep the pace at the precice point between freezing due to air temperature and freezing due to wind chill...

I'd be well up for resurrecting the NTWNS.

I was considering dropping into Phil's thing to test the waters again, but the last time I did one of these fake suicides (2008?), it was quite idle, stuck to the roads too much, and wasn't...well, very suicidal.
I'm not that fit at the moment, but should be quite capable by mid-season.

Ditching Traf Sq. which was central for everyone, was blasphemous. It's also the perfect place to get you into the alleyways.

Mit's skates tend to do a lot of alleyways.

Yes, and I expect to be doing more of them.

Actually, it now looks like I won't be out Wednesdays for the next month anyway: I have an evening class

I'd be up for some winter skating ... once I get my fitness back.

LOL. I would last for about 4 seconds.

Here is an experiment for you: record one of you training sessions on that fancy watch you have and the race yourself ... on 80mm wheels ;)

Meh.

This winter is all about small wheels and drinking. None of this new fangled healthy-eating-speed-skating business.

I can't do twisty routes with a lot of quick stops/starts anymore due to ankle/knee messes, so if the NTWNS or even NTNTWNS are going to be like that I'll have to drop out.... :(

How fast are Tues RC nowadays?

depends on who is there they cab quite relaxed but sometimes there is a bit of testosterone on display. If you ask for a relaxed one before coming then you are more likely to get it.

They can be fast, but nobody gets left behind (lucky for me :))
