OK Sonic, I'm confused. Wikipedia has an entry for Vironians which seems to refer to inhabitants of the North Eastern part of Estonia (with a reference to Virolainen being a surname connected to that area). Virtually all the Google links seem to point to people with that surname. Would you care to clarify things? (and extend my knowledge a little further in the process!)

Welcome to sr.com Jaakko. All the finns I've met (all three of them) have been very friendly people, and welcomed by all the local publicans.

Virolainen is finnish for estonians in general. The north-east part of Estonia is called Virumaa or Viroland, you (or rather the wikipedia) are right. I however am from the capital Tallinn which is across the Gulf of Finland from Helsinki. Hence the 'from thereabouts' bit.

Ah, that's much clearer, ta muchly!

Wikipedia can be a little less than totally accurate on occasions, but heah, you get what you pay for!

I know of Tallinn, since I watch the Eurovision Song Contest, the only reason that anyone in the UK ever knows the names of the capitals of other European countries! "...hello Lisbon, and can we have the votes of the Portugese jury..."
