Skating Greek Islands

Postby juls » Wed Jul 28, 2004 11:55 am

Im going to the Greek Islands (Santorini, Ios and Naxos) leaving on Saturday and was wondering if its worth taking my skates.

Has anyone been? Have any suggestions where to skate?

Any info appreciated

Might have some promenades and stuff but in general the quieter, and therefore safer, roads on the greek Islands I have been to (Zakynthos & Kos) are shocking to drive on let alone skate. It won't be particularly flat and drivers won't give you the time of day outside of towns.

However, if you don't take them and you had spare room/weight allowance how bad would you feel?

I agree with Rick - just been to Kos and a few of the other islands (forgotten names).
The roads are slippery and littered with high speed scooters and burnt rubber, they are narrow and not in great condition.

Out of town - conditions worsen.

Pathways are worse still and of very varied surface quality.

If you're confident and agile you could risk it - but the scene there (Kos) is next to 0 - I counted 4 kids sighted in a week at Kos!

I don't think its the best way to see the islands - the infrastructure is just not up to it.

However if you had the allowance and there was some unexpected tarmac...
